Master's Internship (m/f/d) Optical Metrology & Quality Engineering
Employment Model:
The position is offered as a 6-month full-time internship
Upon successful completion of the internship and based on mutual agreement, you will have the opportunity to continue as a Master's Working Student for up to 80 hours per month. This creates an excellent opportunity to deepen your expertise, contribute to long-term projects, and potentially support future thesis-related activities.
About this role & responsibilities
In this role, you will support the inspection and qualification of incoming components using advanced optical measurement systems and dedicated test benches. Working closely with experts from R&D, Quality, and Operations, you will gain hands-on experience in industrial optical metrology, precision measurements, and quality engineering within a high-tech photonics environment. Your work will directly contribute to ensuring the quality and reliability of critical components before they enter production.
- Perform optical and functional inspections of incoming components using state-of-the-art optical test benches and metrology equipment.
- Evaluate measurement results against technical specifications and acceptance criteria and document findings within the company's quality management system.
- Identify and report non-conforming components and support root-cause investigations where required.
- Prepare test samples and maintain accurate inspection and measurement records.
- Perform routine verification, calibration checks, and basic maintenance of testing equipment.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of inspection methods, test procedures, and documentation processes.
- Collaborate closely with R&D, Quality, and Operations teams to ensure an efficient and reliable incoming goods inspection process.
Your Qualifications
Required
- Currently enrolled in a Master's degree in Physics, Optical Engineering, Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.
- Strong interest in optical systems, precision measurements, metrology, and quality engineering.
- Careful and detail-oriented, with a high level of reliability and commitment to accurate, repeatable work.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Good written and spoken English.
Preferred
- Hands-on laboratory experience with optical measurement systems or scientific instrumentation
- Knowledge of optics, imaging systems, cameras, lasers, spectroscopy, interferometry, or related technologies.
- Experience with data analysis using Python, MATLAB, or similar software.
- Basic understanding of quality management principles and statistical evaluation of measurement data.
- German language skills are an advantage.
